JUST IN: 73-year-old dies after hit-and-run on Modderfontein Road
The perpetrator drove a charcoal black double-cab
A 73-year-old Edenvale resident died at 2pm on Friday afternoon after being seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident on Modderfontein Road on Sunday.
His heartbroken family appeals to the community to help identify the hit-and-run driver who smashed into Brian Ferraris (73) of Lombardy East around 11am at the intersection with Van Riebeeck Road.
The family is devastated and disappointed that the unknown driver, who apparently ignored a red traffic light, sped away after smashing into the back of Ferraris’ scooter.
A street vendor, by the name of Justice, told Ferraris’ sister, Alice Truter, that the perpetrator drove a charcoal black double-cab which did not have a registration number at the back.
Ferraris’ niece, Natalie Truter, told EXPRESS 11 years ago she lost her brother who was hit by a truck but it is more devastating when the driver does not stop to own up and take responsibility.
Before Ferraris’ death, Natalie told EXPRESS, “We need people to help us with any information so this driver can be caught and punished for his reckless behaviour. My uncle is in ICU fighting for his life and has already undergone multiple surgeries due to the severity of his injuries.
“He suffered two broken ribs, internal bleeding, a broken arm, an inverted colon and a collapsed lung which cannot be attended to at the moment because he had suffered two cardiac arrests during operations.”
Alice hopes someone out there has some video footage that could help find the perpetrator and help Edenvale SAPS who is investigating the matter.
