Brothers bust for shielding drunk sibling at Edleen accident scene

The brothers allegedly assaulted police officers after their brother failed a breathalyser test at the crime scene.

TWO brothers were arrested for allegedly interfering with police work when officers attempted to arrest a third brother who failed a breathalyser test at an accident scene in Edleen.

Police spokesperson Lesibana Molokomme said the suspects would also be charged with assault, as they assaulted police officers until backup was called to the corner of Green Avenue and Duvenage Street at 9pm on September 9.

Molokomme said officers were attending the accident scene involving two vehicles. The suspects’ brother, who was one of the drivers involved in the accident, failed the test with a reading of 100mg.

The suspects, aged 29 and 37, were taken to Norkem Park SAPS as part of another group of 15 suspects who were also arrested for various crimes and driving under the influence in a joint operation between the police and JMPD members.
