Stolen cars recovered on Andrew Mapheto Drive

An unlicensed firearm with seven live rounds of ammunition was found around one suspect's waist

Four men had been arrested and two hijacked vehicles recovered in two separate incidents on Andrew Mapheto Drive in Tembisa.

Tembisa South SAPS communication officer, Capt Neldah Sekgobela said police members from the Ekurhuleni North Cluster were executing their normal crime prevention duties on September 8 when they stopped a silver BMW 3 series at 2.35am.

“The police requested permission to search the vehicle and the two occupants. The permission was granted.

“An unlicensed firearm with seven live rounds of ammunition was found around one suspect’s waist. Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle was hijacked in Tembisa this month,” said Sekgobela

While the police were still at the same spot, they stopped a silver grey Passat VW with two occupants at 3.30am. Another search was conducted and an unlicensed firearm was found. The car was robbed in Kempton Park in December 2015.

She said the four suspects, aged between 31 and 35, were arrested for possession of hijacked motor vehicles, unlicensed firearms and live rounds of ammunition.
