14 people injured in two bakkie collisions on the R21 south

NINE people were injured on Monday morning when the bakkie they were traveling in rolled on the R21 south near the Pomona turn-off in Kempton Park.

ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, arrived at the scene at 9.17am, finding the bakkie on its roof in the fast lane. The occupants had already climbed out of the vehicle and had made their way to the emergency lane.

Paramedics assessed the patients and found nine had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Fortunately, no serious or fatal injuries were found at the scene.

Paramedics treated the patients and transported them to various hospitals for further treatment.

“Due to the collision, traffic was heavily affected in the area. Local authorities were at the scene for further investigations,” Russel Meiring of ER24 said.

In another accident involving a bakkie on the R21 south on Saturday night, five people were injured.

The small bakkie and a van collided just after Atlas Road around 9pm.

When ER24 paramedics arrived, two people were entrapped inside the bakkie. The jaws of life needed to be used to extricate the two patients from the bakkie. Upon further assessment, both were found to be in a serious condition.

Three other patients were walking around at the scene. They were found to have sustained moderate injuries.

ER24, as well as other medical services at the scene, transported the patients to nearby hospitals for further medical care.
