An Ivory Park man who is alleged to have murdered another man because he suspected the latter was going out with his girlfriend, was expected to apply for bail in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on September 15.
According to Ivory Park SAPS communication officer Capt Bernard Matimulane, the suspect was first arrested two months ago following an intensive tracing exercise by Ivory Park SAPS detectives, which led them to Sebokeng in the Vaal where the suspect fled to after the murder and attempted murder of three other people.
“The three include his then girlfriend. In early February this year the suspect, 23, found his girlfriend in the company of her male friend and stabbed the victim with a pair of scissors.
“The victim succumbed to his injuries in hospital five days later. The suspect came back to his girlfriend’s place three days after the first stabbing incident and found her with other people. He stabbed the three of them, including the girlfriend, with scissors, and this time he fled Ivory Park for good,” said Matimulane.
Matimulane added that police were working hard to oppose bail as they strongly believed the suspect was a danger to society and himself.
“The fact that he came back to stab the girlfriend shows that he wouldn’t hesitate to employ violence if and when it suits him. The suspect is facing a charge of murder and three charges of attempted murder,” added Matimulane.
The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, said it would be in the best interest of the community for alleged offenders such as this to be kept out of circulation as their presence may stir up animosity from the community.
“The fact that it took us months to bring him to account speaks volumes about his ability to evade justice and that he has the potential to abscond,” added Brigadier Ngcobo.
