Police need help identifying thief killed in accident
Kempton detectives request anyone with missing family members to come forward and identify the bodies at the Germiston Mortuary
KEMPTON Park SAPS urges residents to help identify an alleged handbag thief who was killed in an accident.
According to spokesperson Capt Jethro Mtshali, the man was knocked down by two cars right after stealing a woman’s handbag.
The incident happened on the R21 highway on August 29 just after 4pm.
“The robber was knocked down by two motor vehicles while running across the freeway. It is alleged he had just robbed a woman of her handbag and stabbed her with a sharp instrument,” Mtshali explained.
The woman’s handbag was found on the bonnet of one of the vehicles involved in the accident.
“The deceased, who is estimated to be in his early 20s, was wearing a striped T-shirt, black jeans, blue jersey and black tekkies.”
A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
In a separate incident, police need help identifying the body of a man who was knocked down by a train.
The deceased, estimated to be about 47 years old, sustained multiple injuries after he was hit by a train at Birchleigh Railway Station on September 5.
He was wearing a dark grey tracksuit and grey T-shirt.
Kempton detectives request anyone with missing family members to come forward and identify the bodies at Germiston Mortuary, failing which the deceased will be given a pauper’s burial.
