Popular Tembisa DJ, Khombela Nthleko, better known as DJ Khomza, is currently behind bars after allegedly assaulting a woman friend.

The video, which went viral on social media after the incident, shows the woman in a car with one hand holding the steering wheel while she is covering her head with a jacket. She is repeatedly beaten by Khomza with what looks like a spanner.

The video further shows Khomza being calmed by another man while a woman’s voice, believed to be that of the victim’s friend, can also be heard. She urges Khomza to stop and calm down.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson, Kay Makhubela, said after the incident the victim was rushed to a hospital because she suffered serious injuries.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Police, Fikile Mbalula, condemned the incident in the strongest terms.

“The actions of DJ Khomza are shameful and disgusting. No one should act like that towards women or any person. We will continue to act harshly against those who abuse and dehumanise women and children, who are the most vulnerable people in our society.”

He commended the police for the swift arrest of Nthleko.

“The South African justice system must be seen to work for survivors of gender-based violence. Our work as police is to sensitise all our police stations to respond to the issue of gender-based violence with precision, efficiency and absolute sensitivity to the survivors. Khombela must rot in jail and be held responsible for his actions,” added Mbalula.
