Women and Big Business: Part 2
Women possess rare skills in running a business including big business. You may ask yourself: Why is this the case? Why are women doing so well in running big business? Well, women are very instrumental in organising and leading in a family, community, country and even in churches. These attributes and skills which they use across these different levels, are the same skills which make them succeed in the corporate environment. This article will highlight those skills and hopefully encourage many women across Tembisa to start and run businesses.
Below are some of the factors that make women outstanding business leaders:
1. Women are communal rather than individualistic.
There is a true saying that if you educate a women or empower a women you have empowered a community. Women share and empower others much more than can do. This attribute makes them able to make more of an impact. Effectively, women tend to transform families, communities and nations faster than men do.
2. Women pay attention to detail.
Women are said to pay closer attention to detail than man do. This helps them to remember things that most of their counterparts may not remember easily. They tend to spawn organisations with better precision than men do. Why? They can remember things and details much better.
3. Women are better organisers and can lobby.
A women can think of an idea now, put it together and lobby support faster than their male counterparts. They use their strength as organisers and can get people to rally behind an idea much faster. If you look around in the country, you will see a lot of women entrepreneurs and business women. This applies even internationally.They can market their products and businesses much faster too.
4. Women are great communicators.
In addition to all these skills, women are better communicators. Therefore, they tend to mobilise people, skills, resources and grow their business much faster.
In order to help entrepreneurs of Tembisa to implement what we are learning via these articles, I have set up what I call the Joseph Achievers Mentoring (JAM) program. The programme is based on Joseph in the Bible who rose to prominence despite his background. I am encouraging all Tembisan residents to join. This programme is aimed at supporting all residents of Tembisa but targets mainly entrepreneurs, young professionals, university students and high school learners. It offers a range of support initiatives including career guidance, training and mentoring. Many have enrolled in the programme and receive business management training and mentoring.
