Man arrested for possession of hijacked motor vehicle

The suspects took the car keys and drove off with a tank of paraffin

A man was arrested for being found in possession of a hijacked Toyota bakkie on September 11.

Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said police received information from members of the community about a suspicious looking vehicle in the neighbourhood.

“Police responded and found the 25-year-old man. When they searched the suspect’s room they found the bakkie’s keys. The 25-year-old man agreed that he had parked the car outside. He was forthwith arrested. The vehicle was hijacked from a man in Emmangweni Section.”

The victim alleged he was delivering paraffin to shops in the area and stopped at a shop where his brother was working. He and his brother were confronted by three men. One of the muggers pointed a firearm at them.

They demanded money and his brother gave them some money. Both victims were searched and the muggers took his brother ‘s wallet. The suspects found car keys on one of the brother’s who was the driver of the vehicle.

The suspects took the car keys and drove off with a tank of paraffin,” said Captain Ralidzhivha.

The arrested suspect will soon appear before the magistrate’s court for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, carjacking and robbery.
