Taxi drivers make learners’ last day at school fun
Different transporters came together and instead of each driver doing the outing on their own, they brought all the children
MANY children across the country may have been happy to go on school holidays, but none were happier than those who go to Birch Acres, Jeugpark, Norkem Park and Mooifontein primary schools.
Ekurhuleni North Scholar Association (ENSTA), responsible for transporting many of these children, had special treats waiting for them at Birch Acres Football Club to mark the end of their third term.
The activities the kids enjoyed included jumping castles, soccer, netball, egg races and a dance competition. The children were also treated to meals during the festivities.
One of the co-ordinators, Tracy Chabeli, said even though this was something ENSTA was committed to when schools closed, this time around the transporters had made a collective effort.
“Basically what happens is this: when schools close every term, transporters usually take the children to places like McDonald’s and Spur.
This time around different transporters came together and instead of each driver doing the outing on their own, we brought all the children together,” Chabeli said.
She said this initiative was also aimed at creating better relations with the parents and is meant to show them that ENSTA was committed to building trust and creating a place of harmony for the children.
“We want the parents to see that this is not only about the money and taking their kids to school. Our relationship does not only end there. We want to build better relations with the parents and the kids as well,” Chabeli added.
Chabeli also said this would help the children to have a better relationship with the drivers, as they were establishing a friendly atmosphere for them. “We believe that if we keep doing something like this, there will be more safety and security,” Chabeli added.
