Shops close as law enforcers move into CBD

Several vehicles repaired illegally on the public road were towed away.

MOST stores closed shop on Monday when the metro police and SAPS moved into Kempton Park CBD for a crime prevention operation.

Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the metro police spokesperson, said he believed information about the blitz was leaked.

“The inclement weather experienced on Monday last week, which created havoc in the area with rain pelting down heavily and winds blowing strongly, did not deter the law enforcers from ensuring that law and order prevail in the central business district of Kempton Park. The special operation was conducted between 9am and 3pm,” he said.

The police raided a few shops that were open as well as several flats. Several vehicles repaired illegally on the public road were towed away to the metro police pound, hundreds of counterfeit CDs and DVDs were confiscated as well as dozens of tablets that may not be sold over the counter.

High visibility patrols and stop-and-searches were conducted, checking for documentation, dangerous weapons and drugs.
