Man’s body found in stream near Makhulong Section (graphic content)

According to residents residing next to the crime scene, they suspect the man was from a tavern around Makhulong Section

A male, around 35 years old, was found in a stream between Winnie Mandela Zone 1 and Makhulong Section on October 14.

The deceased was found by members of the community who crossed over the stream at 6.45am.

Members of the Tembisa SAPS and Ekurhuleni Emergency Services were called to the scene.

The victim was declared dead at the scene.

According to residents residing next to the crime scene, they suspect the man was from a tavern around Makhulong Section and he was running away from a group of people who were chasing after him.

The middle-aged man lying on the ground was removed from a stream between Winnie Mandela and Makhulong Stadium on the morning of September 14.

“In the early hours, I heard a noise from a group of men. It seems they were fighting. Later I heard two gunshots fired. However, I am not sure whether the deceased was involved in the argument of those. To my surprise, when I woke up to the go to the open space where we erect stands for cleaning. I saw blood coming from a passage of Makhulong to Winnie Mandela. That’s when I saw people gathered at the stream pointing at the deceased,” said one of the residents.

Meanwhile, the Tembisa SAPS communication officer, Capt Manyadza Ralidzivha, confirmed the deceased was found by an unknown passerby. “It seems he was killed and thrown into the river. The injuries on his body couldn’t be ascertained. We are appealing for members of the community who may have any information about the suspects and also the place where he was killed, to contact the Tembisa SAPS on 011 926 2970 or 08600 10111,” added Ralidzivha.

A murder case was registered at the Tembisa SAPS.

The deceased was taken to a mortuary by members of the Germiston Forensic and Pathology Services.
