The Dries Niemandt Park in Kempton Park was captured by high jubilations on Tuesday as the City of Ekurhuleni celebrated over 500 of its employees for their long years of service at the Department of Environment and Waste Management.
The employees, who are all over the age of 55, were presented with certificates and showered with tokens of appreciation for their commitment to the metro.
The ceremony kicked-off with a special dedication for those who have been at the metro for 40 years and more.

Obed Mampa was recognised as the longest-serving employee, walking away with a 45-year certificate of recognition and a R3 000 Makro voucher. Following him was David Ditshego for his 44 years of service.
Others awarded included Wilfred Mmako (43 years); Thomas Mukhova (41 years); Alpheus Phaho (41 years); Samuel Mothiba (41 years); Mtandeki Ntwakumba (41 years); Malachias Mlisa(40); Mjikelo Mavalukuni (40 years); Johannes Rakgoale (40 years) and Isaac Mbele (40 years) who all received R1 000 Makro vouchers.

Celebrating with the employees was Ekurhuleni’s Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environment and Waste Management Services, Clr Ndosi Shongwe, who said for many years the employees helped the municipality to be clean and green.
“We are here today to celebrate and recognise the contributions you have made for many years at the municipality. We acknowledge you for all the good work you have put in.
“This is the City’s way of showing gratitude for the dedication and commitment you have shown over the years.
“Today is your special day because, without you, we would not have the kind of City we have. We are proud of you!” Shongwe said.
Employees who have been working for over 20 years were also recognised during the ceremony.
