RODENTS and infested rubbish bins will soon be a thing of the past for residents.
The City of Ekurhuleni urges residents to start making use of the 240? wheelie bins for waste removal.
As part of compliance standards, the City of Ekurhuleni’s department of waste management services has started rolling out the bins in Kempton Park and it will soon be available at all waste management depots within the city.
“The advantage of using wheelie bins is the ability to minimise the tearing of bags by rodents and stray dogs – a problem that is facing most households in the city,” said Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni’s spokesperson.
Furthermore, Gadebe says these bins are impermeable to pests which will help a great deal in eradicating the problem of infestation and also to help keep the environment healthy.
During the roll out phase, residents must produce their identity document and municipal statement of account to receive their 240? wheelie bin for free.
The city charges residents a monthly service fee of R150.92, VAT exclusive, per bin.
Residents who make use of the bins are urged to place bins outside their homes at 7am on calendar days provided by the city. The metro will retain its current refuse removal calendar.
