Ivory Park couple tied up and robbed

The vehicle was recovered in Mamelodi, Pretoria.

An Ivory Park couple and their seven-year-old daughter have been left traumatised after they were robbed at gunpoint by three men at their home in Ivory Park, Extension Two on October 19.

The Ivory Park SAPS communication officer, Capt Bernard Matimulane, said the man had just taken the car keys from his girlfriend, who is the lawful owner of the car, and was about to go out to buy takeaways when he was confronted by the three armed suspects.

“He was ordered back into their shack where they were tied with shoelaces, had their two cellphones, money and the car stolen. The suspects fled the scene,” added Matimulane.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has expressed shock about the trauma caused to the family and has thanked a team from a car tracking company, for which the owner had subscribed to, for the recovery and the arrest of a man for possession of the vehicle.

Following a high-speed chase, during which the driver lost control and had an accident, the vehicle was recovered in Mamelodi, Pretoria.

“We believe the arrest of this suspect will help us immensely in further investigations. His arrest is a start as we will still have to investigate if he was involved in the robbery at Extension Two and any other crimes,” said Ngcobo.
