While complaints about the refuse removal problems in Kempton Park keep pouring in, neither councillors or Kempton Express could get answers from the City of Ekurhuleni.
Express had sent enquiries about the problems to the metro all week but until now had received no feedback.
Clr Gideon van Zyl, ward councillor for Ward 15, also walked into a wall of silence.

• Stolen wheelie bins to be replaced free of charge
He posted the following on his ward’s Facebook group on Friday morning:
“Good morning fellow residents of Ward 15.
“The mystery surrounding the wheelie-bin /refuse collection is deepening. Mostly it is deepening due to the fact that the Kempton Park Depot has resolutely refused to provide any information regarding the Waste Collection Crisis in Kempton Park.
“At this time – 10am on the 3rd of November 2017, I have not received one shred of information regarding the failure in refuse collection. I have been able to communicate with Senior Managers, but they are just referring me back to the Depot. While the Depot Management is not responding to calls, emails or any other form of communication.
“Communication with crew of the refuse trucks indicates that they are unwilling to collect refuse from wheelie-bins, and that the patchy collection has to do with that unwillingness. The rest we can just guess, extrapolate and try to work out what is going on.
“I want to request all residents to remain calm and collected. We will overcome this crisis just like we have overcome previous crisis like the strike we had, the refuse collection failure we had during December and the various collection failures we had after paydays.
“We will monitor the situation till early next week and then I think we need to get together as a community and plan a way forward.”
