Help Con Amore to take learners on a sea holiday
The school plans to take 20 learners on a sea holiday.
TWENTY senior learners of Con Amore have the opportunity to enjoy a seaside holiday in December.
However, to make this possible, the school needs residents to sponsor a child for R1 500.
Con Amore is a school for learners with severe intellectual challenges. Special schools such as Con Amore are few and far apart, thus they serve a very large area on the East Rand: Kempton Park, Modderfontein, Germiston, parts of Boksburg and Benoni.
A large number of the learners come from impoverished homes who can make no contribution to school or bus fees.
The holiday will take place from December 4-8. To identify these learners, the school was guided by these criteria: learners that have never been to the sea, oldest learners get preference and learners who would not have the opportunity to go to the sea in the foreseeable future. Severe health or behavioural problems were also considered.
The sponsorship will include their stay at Fig Tree in Winkelspruit, three meals a day, a visit to Sharks Board and a visit to uShaka Marine World.
