Security officer finds unsuspecting surprise in ‘moving’ wheelie bin

A man holding a screwdriver was found inside a wheelie bin in Terenure on Thursday morning.

The man was found by Super C.O.P.S’ armed reaction officer, Cobus Heymans.

“I received a call from a woman who lives in Stegmann Street who said something didn’t look right to her as a certain wheelie bin was moving,” said Heymans.

“The woman said the bin was moving sideways and I told her it might be the wind but she refused my suggestion. So I went there and found the wheelie bin on the corner of Oranjerivier Drive and Stegmann Street.”

Heymans said he couldn’t believe what he found when he opened the bin. “When I opened the bin I found a guy inside holding a screwdriver,” said Heymans.

“I asked him what he was doing in the bin but he didn’t answer me. While we were there the SAPS Tactical Response Team (TRT) from Tembisa drove past and stopped to ask what was happening.

“I explained to them what happened and they spoke to him in a language he could understand.”

Heymans told EXPRESS the man was not arrested and instructed to leave. “They [TRT] couldn’t arrest him, because he did nothing, he was just sitting in the bin,” said Heymans.

“They took the screwdriver and told him to leave and said he was up to no good. We are not sure but this could be the new tactic people might want to use for robbery or hijacking.

“People must check their wheelie bins to ensure nobody is hiding inside.”
