The City of Ekurhuleni underspent R828-million in the first quarter, he said.

The 3 178 vacancies in the City of Ekurhuleni are:

• 581 in the metro police department

• 424 in the department of real estate

• 268 in the department of finance

• 244 in the department of sports, recreation arts and culture

• 227 in the department of health and social development

• 180 in the department of transport

• 173 in the department of energy

• 169 in the department of water and sanitation

• 165 in the department of waste management

• 144 in the department of roads and storm water

“Aside from the crippling impact these vacancies have on service delivery, 3 178 families could benefit from these vacant job opportunities. This while the people of Ekurhuleni are suffering under a 32.2 per cent unemployment rate in the metro,” Reid said.
