Entshonalanga learners learn about skin care

Vaseline® takes skin health education to poor communities.

Entshonalanga Primary School pupils received education on the importance of skin health on November 14.

Vaseline® employees visited the school to teach the learners about the uses of their product in improving their skin health.

Unilever PR manager for Africa Sphelele Mjadu said in November Vaseline® will visit 100 clinics and schools in communities across South Africa, providing skin health education to parents, teachers and healthcare workers.

“This initiative forms part of the Vaseline® Healing Project, whereby Vaseline® has committed to improving the skin health of South Africans.

In South Africa, access to quality skin care is scarce with just one dermatologist to 270 000 people. This means that simple, everyday skin conditions can easily become serious problems that prevent people from living a healthy life,” said Mjadu.

She said in August Vaseline® partnered with selected Spar stores to raise funds to provide skin health education to communities in surrounding areas. For every Vaseline® product purchased at 200 participating Spar stores, R1 was donated towards the project.

“This has allowed Vaseline® to provide dermatological training to 266 health workers who will now impart basic skin health education to community leaders and members through school and clinic visits. Vaseline® believes that the simple lessons we are providing can make all the difference in helping people take care of their skin daily to prevent more serious conditions from developing. Vaseline® Blueseal has been used for generations to protect and restore skin from minor skin ailments and we believe that daily use at key occasions can ultimately lead to healthier skin overall”.

She said Vaseline® has identified four key occasions of skin care.

1. After cleansing:

Moisturise skin all over the body after cleansing with soap, morning and evening. Cleansing removes the top layer of oils in the skin, which can leave your skin feeling and look dry.

2. After exposure:

Moisturise skin after exposure to sun, wind, pollution or harsh soaps and chemicals. These elements can dry out the skin, leaving it irritated, inflamed or dry.

3. After exercise:

Moisturise skin after exercise. When exercising, the body loses moisture through sweat. It’s important to moisturise afterwards to avoid dryness.

4. After irritation:

“Use Vaseline® Blueseal to care for and protect skin following irritation, inflammation or minor injury as it locks in moisture and creates a barrier to protect from water and irritants,” said Mjadu.
