Woman’s ‘discomfort’ leads to cocaine bullet find

The 38-year-old woman was being monitored after intelligence was provided.

A female passenger arriving from São Paulo was taken to a hospital when starting to show physical signs of discomfort while being searched at OR Tambo International Airport on Monday morning.

X-rays taken at the hospital revealed bullets in her stomach believed to contain cocaine.

Provincial police spokesperson Brig Vishnu Naidoo said the bullets were retrieved and were sent to a forensic science laboratory for analysis.

The 38-year-old woman was being monitored after intelligence was provided she would arrive in the country with drugs. On arrival from Sao Paulo, she was interviewed and searched at customs.

“However, all forms of physical search had proven unsuccessful until she started to show signs of discomfort. She was immediately taken to a local hospital and X-rayed,” Naidoo said.
