Thuthuka Primary School rewards excellence
Church celebrates excellence in township schools.
Eagles on fire Church celebrated excellence at Thuthuka Primary School on November 25.
The church’s leader and Pastor Emmanuel Popela said the church has adopted Thuthuka Primary School as one of the schools it will be looking after. “The motive behind the Honours Award Ceremony is to encourage learners in the township to love education.
“It is also to ensure that good work is recognised.
“This is our way of giving back to the community as a local church,” said Popela.
He said it is the first time Eagles on fire Church hosted such an event and he confirmed that the programme will be rolled out to other surrounding schools. Asked how the relationship between the school and the church came about, Popela said they approached the school with a proposal and the principal accepted the gesture.
“We are grateful for the school’s co-operation and this is going to be an annual event. We believe we have made a great impact and more children are now looking forward to being rewarded for their hard work. This school is close to our church hence we began to adopt it as part of our honours award programme.”
He said next year the church will adopt two more schools.

According to the pastor, Thuthuka Primary School was established in 1955 and has never had such an event before.
“We awarded 152 learners and to those learners we want to say education is the key. They must also fear the Lord and if they combine the two, their future will be bright. A well-functioning community needs four pillars, namely learners, parents, the school and the church to build a strong society. You cannot separate the four and when everyone plays their part, we have a bright future.”
The pastor thanked everyone who contributed to the day’s success.
Thuthuka Primary School principal Moses Mokoena said the school is grateful for the initiative.
“This is history in the making and we are convinced the learners will be truly motivated. We are humbled by the organising team’s efforts – surely this will add value to our society,” said Mokoena.
The the overall winner of the honours award was Mystery Sindane. The Grade Seven learner will be presented with a new school uniform for next year.
“I am very excited. I always studied and I also trusted in God. To my class mates I want to say they must study harder and they too must trust in God,” said Mystery.
His mother Sophie Sindane said it all happened for her him through the grace of God.
