EMPD raids Dann Road squatter camp, dagga uprooted

The EMPD will monitor the settlement to ensure no additional shacks are built

Dagga plants grown at the informal settlement on Dann Road were uprooted by Ekurhuleni Metro Police on Saturday.

Twelve officers from the department’s K9 unit swooped on the squatter camp at 9.30am. The search operation was aimed at ensuring that no criminal activities are taking place at this invaded land, said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.

Over 100 shacks were searched whereupon dagga plants were uprooted and confiscated.

“Several bank cards were found in a dump area. Not less than thirty persons were also searched. One person, who claimed to be a community leader, was found in possession of a number of identity documents,” Kgasago added.

He said the reason was to ensure that only known persons resided at the settlement.

“The EMPD will periodically conduct raids and monitor the settlement to ensure that no additional shacks are built.,” said Kgasago.
