DA leader addresses Tembisa residents
He told Tembisa residents that people must be given title deeds for the land on which their properties are built
Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane took the party’s People’s Forum Tour to Tembisa on January 11.
Scores of DA members, some wearing blue party T-shirts, came from different municipalities to listen to Maimane, who spoke at length on community problems and party principles.
Maimane stressed the importance of choosing a party worthy of leading South Africa and willing to serve the people.
“This is about a future where more people will find a job. The struggle for South Africa today is a struggle for jobs. We cannot say we have a future when people are waking up every day basking in the sun; we want a future where our people are working and contributing to the economy,” Maimane told the cheering crowd at Sam Hlalele Hall.
He said the majority of people who are not working are black people and they are young people. If those young people are not given jobs, he said, it will encourage them to engage in criminal activities and drug abuse.
Attendees were given a chance to put questions to the DA leader, and Maimane was more than willing to answer questions from different municipalities. He also assured young people that under the leadership of the DA all poor students will get free tertiary education.
“I don’t want rich people to not pay to go to university. If you are rich you must pay and if you are poor the state must pay. It mustn’t be free for everybody,” Maimane said to ululations from the audience.
He condemned poor service delivery from the SAPS and said residents are worried about ever-escalating crime levels in Tembisa.
Maimane said the SAPS must be fully equipped for the department to be efficient without members soliciting bribes from victims.
He told Tembisa residents that people must be given title deeds for the land on which their properties are built.
He also spoke against corruption in the ruling party and encouraged attendees to choose the DA in order to realise the possibilities of a better life.
He said the only party that can deliver is the DA, adding that the party aims to take over the Ekurhuleni municipality to improve service delivery and make sure that South Africa has a future.
