Sweet, sweeter, a record-breaking attempt of 44 000 cupcakes!

The Guinness World Record for the largest cupcake mosaic in the world currently measures at 138.56m² and consists of 33 660 cupcakes.

The titleholder is the proudly South African SPAR group, who created a South African flag mosaic as a tribute to the Springboks for the Rugby World Cup in 2015.

The group has held this tasty title for three years but now it seems that another cupcake clan will break their record. Luckily, if successful, the title will remain on home soil and right here in Kempton Park.

The Raising Aidan Foundation will host this cupcake event on February 17 at Hoërskool Jeugland.

The record-breaking fun will commence at 9.30am, where there will be an attempt to break the current record with up to 44 000 cupcakes.

The entire community is encouraged to get involved, said founder of the Raising Aidan Foundation Melissa Botha of Bryanston.

“People who want to get involved can sponsor a cupcake mix for R90, sponsor cupcakes for R10 each or bid on pieces of the finished cupcake mosaic.

“These bids can be as low as R2 or even as high as R1 000. There is no limit.”

All these donations will go towards the Raising Aidan Foundation and the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa.

Botha started the foundation after her son Aidan, now eight years old, was diagnosed with a very rare genetic disorder called Costello Syndrome when he was 18 months old.

This syndrome is so rare that only two people in South Africa have been diagnosed with it.

“As a single mother, I have received help from various organisations over the years to cover Aidan’s medical expenses.

“Now, I want to help other struggling families who also have children with special needs,” Botha added.
