Bikers do charitable work for needy children
They gave them sanitary towels, a washing machine, a security door, a stove, stationery, clothes and shoes
Cool Responsible Riders (CRR) handed over donated goods to Ubuhle Bezwe Children’s Centre on Saturday.
More than a hundred bikes arrived at the centre on January 27 accompanied by a truck full of goodies.
Community members came in numbers to witness the spectacle.
More than 20 biker clubs were part of the campaign to help needy children.
Spokesperson for the CRR bikers Lebogang Ntshoe said they visited the centre to present gifts and food parcels.
“We gave them sanitary towels, a washing machine, a security door, a stove, stationery, clothes and shoes.
“This was only from the club.
“We also had good Samaritans who took it upon themselves to assist.
“McDonald’s restaurant also donated and was present to put smiles on the children’s faces.
“One individual sponsor built a wall at the centre.
“We had individuals as far as Durban and Nelspruit sponsoring the campaign,” said Ntshoe.
He said as motorcycle riders they felt a need to be involved again after they supported a charity in 2015.
They were moved when they realised the plight of needy children.
They came together and devised a campaign called Cool Responsible Riders.
Through media they encouraged motorcycle clubs to get their members involved in the campaign.
“We are now doing community work.
“We asked residents to identify the neediest orphanages.
“Ubuhle Bezwe Children’s Centre was chosen and every member supported this decision.
“A number of clubs got involved,” said Ntshoe.
Ntshoe said this was the first time the bikers donated as a combination of clubs and they were planning to make the campaign an annual event.
“The turn out from the bikers was good.
“Every year at the end of January we will come out in numbers to help needy children.”
Founder of Ubuhle Bezwe Children’s Centre Barbra Mthimkhulu said she was very happy about the assistance she got from CRR.
“They surprised us and the donated consignments will make a difference in the children’s lives.
“The donated goods were much needed at the centre and I want to thank CRR and McDonald’s for this treat.
“This will have a positive impact and it will make things easier for us here at the centre,” said Mthimkhulu.
