New day hospital will open in Boksburg this month

Residents now have the option to access more efficient and affordable surgeries for same-day surgical procedures

Advanced Health Group will open a day hospital in Boksburg later this month.

Advanced East Rand, the day hospital group’s 11th establishment in South Africa, will serve the greater Ekurhuleni.

Dr Vic Diab, founder of the project and general practitioner in the area, explains, “The last hospital to be built in Boksburg was Sunward Park Hospital in 1990. The population has since grown exponentially, as has the need for a new, quality healthcare offering in the area.

“Two founding members through their long-standing relationship with Carl Grillenberger, CEO of Advanced Health, started investigating the viability of a day hospital in the area and the result, two years later, is the opening of Advanced East Rand.”

Day hospitals, as the name suggests, are used solely for surgical procedures which do not require overnight hospital stays. Because of this, operating costs are reduced and this saving translates into lower costs for the patient.

The opening of Advanced East Rand means residents now have the option to access more efficient and affordable surgeries for same-day surgical procedures, without quality being compromised.

“We want to make a difference to the community by affording patients the choice to access specialist healthcare services and affordable alternatives,” says Liezl Balfour, facility manager at Advanced East Rand.

The new facility offers numerous day procedures including orthopaedic, cosmetic or gynaecological procedures as well as urology services, maxillo-facial, dental and ear, nose and throat surgery.

Specialists have access to three theatres and a procedure room for local sedation cases. Thirty beds complete this hospital which includes a dedicated children’s ward and on-site services for pathology, radiology, audiology and dentistry.
