Meeting for Birch Acres residents to discuss new development
All residents are encouraged to attend.
Councillor Tracey Lourenco of ward 104 encourages as many Birch Acres residents as possible to attend a public meeting on February 9 at 6pm in Suikerbekkie Street. Here, the construction of a residential area comprising double-storey buildings will be discussed.
Developers wish to construct two-storey buildings with a capacity of 40 units per hectare but town planners are currently applying to have the site zoned for the purpose of a township establishment.
The area these developers wish to use is close to a wetland, which may affect the fauna and flora. Various issues such as the traffic impact on the area, education and healthcare facilities will also have an impact on residents.
Lourenco has already raised her concerns with regards to the possible construction. “How close this development will encroach on the wetland, is problematic. We already have major issues with properties along this water body flooding over the years.”
If the development goes ahead, noise pollution will also affect residents.
“I strongly encourage as many residents as possible to attend this meeting as this will be a good opportunity to have all your questions answered by GKM Consulting on behalf of the developer,” Lourenco added.
