The Ekurhuleni North Cluster stations were involved in joint operations from February 2 until February 4.
According to the Tembisa SAPS communication officer, Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha, they managed to arrest 110 suspects for different crimes committed.
“Suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from possession of suspected stolen property to driving without a valid driver’s licence,” said Ralidzivha.
Ralidzivha explained that a 35-year-old police constable was arrested for interfering with police duties.
“He went to the Edenvale Police Station where his friend of 31-years-old was detained for driving under the influence of alcohol. He told the police he wanted to see his friend, who was already in the cells. He tried to force the captain on duty to allow him to see his friend. He was later arrested for interfering with police duties,” said Ralidzivha.
He said a 27-year-old man was arrested at Ethafeni Section for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“Police, who were on patrol, came across him on the street. He was carrying a black Roemer school bag and was looking suspicious. They stopped and searched him and found a rifle black stopper inside. There was no ammunition. Since he didn’t have a license for the firearm, he was arrested and detained at Tembisa South SAPS.”
Ralidzivha added that a 34-year-old man was arrested after he was found with goods that were stolen in Edenvale.
“The suspect was arrested in Kempton Park in his second-hand goods shop. After the verification of the goods, the police contacted the owner of the goods, who informed the police that he had not sold the goods to anybody and that they were stolen from his company. The stolen goods that were displayed on the counter are five navigators and a laptop which were not registered on the shop owner’s books.”
Ralidzivha also said the police were called to a scene where three men were fighting in Norkem Park.
“Upon their arrival on the scene, the police found the three men all injured. They had stab wounds on their bodies. They were found to be in possession of dangerous weapons. An ambulance was called and they were taken to a hospital,” said Ralidzivha.
All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.
