Birchleigh bloke is 38% better in maths

Head of Brighter Futures says it is due to commitment, regular practice and support from parents.

Birchleigh High School learners were praised for their mathematics improvement at the Brighter Futures Math Achievers event late in January.

Seventy-four learners from 11 schools around Gauteng were recognised for their exceptional achievements. They received medals and certificates.

One of these learners is Bongiwe Mavuso from Birchleigh High School, who hated mathematics at first. His results improved by a whopping 38 per cent.

His marks went from a low 30 to an almost B symbol (68%) after attending maths classes at Brighter Future for only six months.

Head of tuition at Brighter Futures Elby Kabamadondo said these learners’ success was due to three factors.

“Firstly, the commitment, self-motivation and passion to achieve displayed by each of these learners was far ahead of their peers. Secondly, improvement in maths is not possible without regular practice. Each of these learners completed at least 40 to 50 exercises a week.

“Lastly, each of these learners had an involved parent who checked their work, showed interest and gave them extra support.”
