Water floods car to the dashboard level while security officer fights to survive
A CMS security officer’s vehicle was washed away by flood water in Rhodesfield on Saturday afternoon as big storm passed over the city.
“I was driving down Albatross Street as I was responding to an alarm around 3.30pm,” said the security officer.

“As I was turning left into Gladiator Street, I drove straight into the floods. Before I knew it, I couldn’t control the vehicle as there was a lot of water that pushed the car onto another part of Albatross Street.
“The vehicle eventually stopped but I still had to get out of the car as the water gushed inside.”
The officer told EXPRESS he got out of the car through the window.

“The water was fast flooding the car and I realised I had to get out immediately,” he explained.
“I opened the window half-way so as to not let more water come in but enough for me to fit through. At that stage the water in the car was at dashboard level.
“After much struggle, I got out and had to battle to get to dry land. I was soaked but am glad to be alive and not injured.

“It was a scary experience but I had to try and remain calm as much as possible to think about the best way to escape.”
The officer added that he was surprised at how fast the water drained once he was out.
“Surprisingly the water was already drained just after 4pm,” he concluded.
