Rabie Ridge SAPS urges community to respect elderly people

Rabie Ridge SAPS discourages criminals from attacking elderly people.

Rabie Ridge SAPS communications officer Captain Mofana Masela is making a call to the community not to endanger the lives of the elderly people.

Masela said on December 31, 2017, an old man was attacked by three armed men in his retirement home.

He said the victim heard some movements and when he tried to check it was too late already. Three armed men were pointing him with a firearm before he could move from his bed.

“They ordered him to lie down and they tied his feet with shoelaces and his hands with a cable tie. They took three laptops, a Dell and Lenovo, Sinotec TV, cash 500 pounds, and R2 000 and left him on the floor.

“He discovered later that the bathroom window burglar bars are broken.

The suspects used that window to force in entry and used the kitchen door to leave the premises. The victim got injured in his right arm.

“The value of the stolen items is about R16 000.

“Police is investigating a house robbery case,” said Masela.

He said on behalf of the cluster commander of Ekurhuleni North SAPS he appeals to communities to safeguard themselves and respect the elderly.

“Most of the crimes occur because people don’t check if they are in risky situations. It is either a person who leaves the key in the door and gates open and don’t observe around for suspicious movement.

“Others are being followed before being hijacked and others expose their properties to criminals and as a result, they get targeted.

“Most business people run their enterprise at risky premises.

“Police at Ekurhuleni north are vigilant and there are various operations conducted around the cluster. This will keep the community confident towards the police and the environment will be safe in 2018.”
