The naked body of a 74-year-old woman was discovered in a locked wardrobe in the main bedroom of her home at a Birchleigh complex on Friday afternoon.
Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, said an axe found on the scene was taken for forensics to determine whether it was used in the brutal murder.

He told Express on Friday evening that police sector members patrolling in Birchleigh were called to a complaint at Manhattan Heights on the corner of Geelhout and Matumi streets.
Upon arrival, a woman told them her friend’s cell phone was on voice mail and her house was locked. The officers asked her to get a locksmith to come and unlock the residence.
“The locksmith arrived at around 2pm and unlocked the house. In the house they found everything in the main bedroom turned upside down,” Molokomme said.
“Upon checking the cupboard in the main bedroom they found the woman’s naked body. The body had injuries and bruises all over. It is suspected the deceased could be murdered.
“At this stage we don’t know what has been taken from the house as the deceased was staying alone.”
