A total of 18 suspects have been arrested by the Ivory Park SAPS crime prevention and sector policing members on February 13 as part of its anti-drug operations.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communication officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the suspects have been arrested for dealing in and possession of drugs such as Nyaope and dagga, which are very popular in the Ivory Park area.

“The communities have been complaining during the meetings, which are being led by the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, of the widespread use of drugs in the area. The arrest of the 18 forms part of the ongoing efforts by the Ivory Park SAPS to deal with the drug scourge heads on,” said Matimulane. He added they are going to deal with users and dealers alike.

“We are glad that the community is responding to our calls to come forward with information regarding drugs, hence the reason we were able to arrest such a number of suspects in one day. More disruptive operations are planned going forward,” said Ngcobo.
