
Johannesburg High Court Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng sentenced 35-year-old Andries Sanele Vilakazi to an effective life imprisonment on February 2.
According to Tembisa SAPS communications officer, Constable Zandile Mgijima, Vilikazi was found guilty of a housebreaking, rape and murder committed in January 2015.
“The Tembisa police were called to a scene of housebreaking, theft and murder of a 34-year-old victim who was found strangled to death on January 1, 2015,” said Mgijima. “After an intensive investigation it was also ascertained that the victim was raped. The suspect, Andries Sanele Vilakazi, was arrested after a proper investigation made by Tembisa SAPS Detective Sergeant Lamola.”
Vilakazi was sentenced to two counts of life imprisonment for murder and rape, to 15 years for housebreaking and theft, and to 10 years for another count of housebreaking and theft.
All the sentences will run concurrently with the sentence for murder.
