The police, metro police and security forces were on high alert at the Dann Road squatter camp this morning (Thursday) as contractors tried to move in to build a wall next to the settlement.
The wall is apparently intended to keep squatters from moving onto the open land next to the existing informal settlement.
According to information from the scene, contractors with TLBs were warned by the squatters to get out if they did not want to lose their equipment. The equipment had since been removed from the site.

Squatters initially thought the equipment was brought in to evict them and they got aggressive. Kempton Express were told the contractors were brought in by the landowners.
Squatters were singing revolutionary songs earlier this morning. When Express arrived at the scene, we were threatened by the squatters to stay away.
Ward councillor Jaco Terblanche was also at the scene and talked to squatters to reassure them it was not an eviction.
The squatters did not budge and still did not want to allow the contractors onto the site. Terblanche had been accused of being an advocate of the owner.
This is a delevoping story and more information will follow.
