Student teacher aims for international title
It is a journey she will always remember
Simoné Roets’ (21) beauty, ambition and character grabbed the hearts of many, including those of the judges at the Miss Africa 2017 pageantat the ATKV-Buffelspoort Resort in North West last year.
Simoné was crowned Miss South Africa Transcontinental at the prestigious event.
“Although this is Miss Africa, when you enter the competition you are able to select the title you want to compete for and I chose Miss Transcontinental and won it.
“It was a very nice experience, a lot of fun and we had a good sisterhood bond. It is definitely a journey I will always remember,” said Simoné.
“I mentioned sisterhood because, although we were competing, we also had to support each other and I think that was one of the main highlights as we were able to unite.”
The Glen Marais resident said although she didn’t claim the Miss Africa title, she feels honoured to have received the Miss South Africa Transcontinental title.
“This is the highest international title. I have to represent the country in Atlanta from June 20 to July 7 and, if I win there, I will be Miss Transcontinental which means I will be the best out of all the countries worldwide. It is almost like Miss Universe but bigger,” she explained.
“I intend to make positive changes as a result of the title and better people’s lives. I believe it will give me more exposure to new and bigger opportunities which will benefit the charities I work with.”
The young model is also a student teacher to Grade Three learners at Birch Acres Primary School.
“I take this opportunity to thank the school because they have given me a lot of support. I especially thank the principal, Neels Bothma, for giving me the opportunity to follow my dreams and being there to support my journey.
“In order for my dream of competing in Atlanta to become a reality, I will need more sponsorship. I appeal to the community to help make this trip happen.
“Any contribution, big or small, will be greatly appreciated and welcome. Anybody interested can send me an email at simoneroets1@gmail.com.”
Simoné also took time to offer advice to upcoming models. “Work hard, always believe in who you are and never try to be someone else because you are already perfect. Everyone has his or her own beauty.”
