Child (3) almost kidnapped at Norkem Mall, says father
no such incident could be seen on CCTV footage, says management

A man, who saved his three-year-old son from an alleged attempted kidnapping at Norkem Mall on Sunday afternoon, warned parents to keep a close eye on their children when shopping.
“Children don’t just get kidnapped in movies, it’s happening among us,” Quintin Strydom told Express.
This Norkem Park father, with his son, was waiting for his wife outside a healthcare shop when the alleged incident happened.
“My son was playing in the play area and I was reading business cards on the notice board,” he said.
“When I turned around I saw someone pick up my son. My son started screaming. I ran to the man and asked him what the hell he was doing. He just laughed in my face and ran away.”
Strydom ran after the alleged kidnapper, with his son on his heels but the suspect got away.
The incident was reported to the mall’s management. Amy Yelliah, a retail sector spokesperson for the mall, told Express that no such incident could be seen on CCTV footage. However, she urged shoppers to always be vigilant, as this could happen anywhere.
“A few months ago we upgraded our security by switching security companies. CCTV cameras were also installed.”
