Residents fed-up with property on Palm Avenue

Local said he removed 17 bags of rubbish himself.

Many people are fed-up with an untidy property on the corner of Sonneblom and Palm streets.

According to Willie Kruger, this property has been an eyesore since as early as August last year. Overgrown weeds, long grass and rubbish cover the area.

“My family and I once picked up 17 bags of rubbish and drove it away ourselves,” Kruger told Express. Besides the uncut grass and rubbish, Kruger adds that rats roam the area and passers-by often use the property as a public restroom.

“I don’t know why we pay tax.”

According to Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni, a statutory notice was served to the owner by environmental health practitioners for the overgrown weeds and grass. However, the period given has since expired.

“Therefore, the city has appointed a contractor to cut the overgrown weeds and grass,” Gadebe said.

“The contractor will start once the supply chain processes of issuing a purchase order are complete.”

As to the refuse and overgrown weeds on the pavement, Gadebe told Express the issue would be attended to by parks and waste management services respectively.
