WATCH: Police convoy hits hot spots in Pomona and Bredell

'We want to bring trust to the community so they can inform us of illegal activity taking place,' Maredi

In an effort to gain the trust of the community as well as urge them to report crime in their area, police, sector crime forum members, security officers and community patrollers drove in a motorcade to hot spots in Bredell and Pomona.

The convoy took place on March 24, starting at Outeniqua and Barlinka streets, moving through Pomona extensions 2 and 3, part of Brentwood Park, Bredell and 6th Avenue.

“The community and police are creating awareness in order to sensitise residents to report crime in the area. Police have had a number of incidents in this area, mainly house break-ins, illegal businesses and truck hijackings. Drinking and driving has also been a problem. We want to urge the community to report crime and suspicious activity so we can pounce on all the suspects,” said Kempton Park SAPS spokesman Capt Jethro Mtshali.

Sector manager Const Nelson Tebeilla organised the event with the sector forum members.

Station commander Brig Samuel Maredi said the police were partnering with the community to show support for their initiatives in an effort to fight crime in the area.

“We want to bring trust to the community so they can inform us of illegal activity taking place. We want to show them we as the police are here for them. We also want to encourage them to know their neighbours and know what is happening around them,” explained Maredi.

Sector manager Const Nelson Tebeilla organised the event with sector forum members.
