UPDATE: Dann Road squatter march ends peacefully at civic centre

This morning’s march by residents of the informal settlement on Dann Road has ended peacefully at the civic centre on CR Swart Drive.

A memorandum was handed over to a representative of the city manager, Viva Mokoena.

The residents have returned to Dann Road.

A huge metro police and police escort are accompanying the Dann Road squatters on their way to Kempton Park Civic Centre.

They passed Cavendish Glen Shopping Centre at about 9.45am, singing revolutionary songs.

The marchers were peaceful. At one stage young children could be seen in the group.

Motorists must find alternative routes for the duration of the march. Behind the marchers, who keep making regular stops, motorists can be seen making U-turns.
