Auditions for Cantare Jubiloso Choir in Benoni

Your audition will be utilised to establish a sense of your range, tone and voice quality

Auditions for the Cantare Jubiloso Choir will take place in Benoni on April 17 and 24.

Established in March 2014, Cantare Jubiloso Choir is an adult, auditioned concert choir made up of 40-50 choristers from the East Rand and surrounds. Although it is not a professional choir, members have proven themselves to be a choral group with a sound of their own.

They prepare up to four different programmes a year and boast an extensive repertoire. They regularly perform with professional instrumentalists and conductors.

They sing a variety of interesting, and sometimes challenging repertoires within the classical, sacred and secular genres.

Twice they have been involved in the South African premiere performance of internationally renowned composers with Richard Cock and the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra (JFO). In April 2016, they performed John Rutter’s Feel the Spirit to great acclaim.

In March 2018 they sang Karl Jenkin’s Stabat Mater with the JFO and the Symphony Choir of Johannesburg.

Your audition will be utilised to establish a sense of your range, tone and voice quality. It will include vocalisation and range check; tonal memory (you will listen to a few pitches on piano and you’ll need to sing these; your prepared piece – any song (maximum one minute) that you believe shows off best your vocal quality in a wide range (it does not need to be memorised and can be a hymn); sight-singing (do not worry about this, just do your best).

It is recommended that you are able to read music since the programmes encompass a large repertoire with a broad variety of music.

The auditions will take place at the NH Kerk Benoryn, corner of Struben and De Mist streets, Rynfield at 6pm.

If you would like to arrange an audition, call Lanie Coetzer on 082 940 9001.
