Driver’s dog caused two EMPD vehicles to crash, say metro police

The EMPD officers were in a state of shock and could not describe or give more detailed information following the crash.

Two Ekurhuleni Metro Police vehicles were involved in an accident on North Rand Road in Boksburg on Friday.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, metro police spokesperson, the accident happened at 10.30am when the metro police bakkie in front applied emergency brakes to avoid a head-on collision.

According to him, a light delivery vehicle, driven by a woman in the opposite direction, lost control on North Rand Road and veered into oncoming traffic, causing the two EMPD bakkies to collide.

Two metro police bakkies collided on North Rand Road on Friday, April 13.

Following the crash, the female driver claimed the dog she had with her in the vehicle disturbed her. She apologised to the injured officers and drove off, Mokheseng added.

Four officers, two in each bakkie, sustained slight injuries and were transported to Sunward Park Hospital for medical treatment.

The officers, three men and a woman, were in a state of shock with pain, Mokheseng said, and could not describe or give more detailed information following the crash (i.e. the colour of the LDV and the registration number).
