Two police officers survive shooting in Winnie Mandela

The suspects couldn’t reach their getaway car and it was left abandoned on the scene

Two Tembisa SAPS constables survived an attack during a routine patrol at Winnie Mandela Zone Two on April 12 at about 3.30 am.

According to the Tembisa SAPS communications officer, Constable Patricia Mgijima, the two police officers noticed a black BMW 3 series parked idling next to a house in Winnie Mandela.

“The policemen got out of their vehicle to check what was happening. On arrival at the vehicle, they noticed two men who were inside the yard. They tried to open the gate of the yard but it was locked. Suddenly, they heard sounds of a firearm shooting towards them. The police retaliated and tried to get cover,” said Constable Mgijima.

Constable Mgijima said the two officers were shot, one in the leg and stomach while the other was shot in the leg.

“The suspects couldn’t reach their getaway car and it was left abandoned on the scene. The officers are recovering well in hospital while the suspects are still at large,” said Constable Mgijima.
