Gertjie’s memorial service is on Monday

People are asked to wear jeans and white shirts in memory of the slain rugby player.

A memorial service for the late Gert Roets (23) will be held on Monday (April 23) at 2pm.

The celebration of this promising rugby player’s life will take place at Barnard Stadium, home of the Wolwe Rugby Club. The family encourages all those attending to please wear jeans and a white shirt.

Gertjie, as he was lovingly known among friends, family and fellow Wolwe rugby players, died last week Saturday after a senseless attack in the early hours of April 7.

Jaco Lombard, former coach of this first team lock, wrote the following on Facebook: “Your place is empty, but your pain is gone. Gertjie, until we see you again, pal. You now have the best coach in the entire world.”
