Last chance to help Verloor jou Appel’s Shannon

Last push to help Shannon Alston reach her goal of helping an underprivileged top performing student.

Shannon Alston is part of a 13-week weight-loss programme called Verloor Jou Appel.

Shannon told EXPRESS she had lost over 10kg since the beginning of the programme.

“So here I am, 12kg lighter and a few hours away from our gala evening, where I will be showcasing the new me,” said Shannon.

“The event will be held on April 21 at Silverstar Casino Convention Centre in Krugersdorp. The one thing that is more important than revealing my lighter self is that we will be handing over a bursary to an underprivileged and top-performing student through the Be Your Dream Foundation.”

Be Your Dream is part of the weight-loss programme and is an initiative by Anaïs, the artist and ambassador of LifeLine. The project is structured to spread awareness throughout South Africa regarding LifeLine and the free services and counselling they provide for anyone in need.

Contestants have to raise funds for an education bursary for underprivileged top-performing students.

“I thank the Kempton Park community for reading my story and supporting me; I have managed to raise R5 500 in 11 weeks via the Stratcol Debit order system for the Be Your Dream Foundation,” said Shannon.

“My goal was R100 000 and the question is can I still do it? On my own, I can’t but with your help, I can and want to do it. I’m just one person trying to help someone else in need. I can’t raise R100 000 by myself. I need the help of the community to reach my goal.”

Steps to follow to support this worthy cause:

• Visit the Stratcol website at www.stratcol.co.za.

• Click on the Verloor Jou Appel tab

• Set up a debit order of R50, R75 or R150 per month.

Choose Shannon Alston as a contestant; she is number 21.

You can choose how long you would like the debit order to be in place. Of course the period of the debit order is entirely up to you. For example, a supporter who wants to donate R1 500 can set up a debit order of R150 for ten months.

“I am happy for those interested to set up the R50 or R75 per debit order for six months as all these small amounts can create the difference in someone’s life. Don’t think your R50 will not make a difference – every little bit helps. That R50 is bread and milk for someone with very little.

“Come on Kempton Park, let us change someone’s life. How else do we save our beautiful country if not through education?”
