Twselopele residents go on the rampage

During this madness, the local office of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) was attacked and vandalised and some property was taken.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has condemned the acts of public violence which took place in Tswelopele on April 25.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, during this madness, the local office of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) was attacked and vandalised and some property was taken.

“Police are already hard at work following all possible leads as we believe that failure to deal decisively with perpetrators will lead to anarchy. It is not immediately clear which political formations are responsible for these acts of thuggery,” said Matimulane.

Ivory Park SAPS and emergency services at the crime scene.

“Service delivery issues are being mentioned here and there, but the fact that the perpetrators waited for the cover of darkness before embarking on damaging property is telling. This was pure thuggery,” said Ngcobo.

Apart from the EMPD office trampling, perpetrators blocked the roads, damaged robots and looted foreigner-owned shops.

Ngcobo added: “We appeal to all law-abiding citizens, especially in the affected areas, to come forward with any information that may assist us in bringing the anarchists to justice. We cannot demand service by destroying the already existing service.”
