Shoppers held captive during armed robbery at Festival Mall

The centre’s management is working closely with the police to find the suspects

Three suspects robbed the Exact store in Festival Mall at gunpoint on Thursday morning.

The robbery follows hot on the heels of a hoax message spread on social media two weeks ago that there was an armed robbery at Edgars in the centre.

According to Lee-Anne Da Silva, spokesperson for the centre, three men entered the store at about 10.30am.

“They took staff and clients to the shop’s storeroom at the back and forced staff members to open the safe,” she told Express.

An undisclosed amount of money was taken, as well as cellphones. The suspects left the victims inside the store and fled the mall, using a white Toyota Corolla.

“Fortunately,” Da Silva added, “no gunshots were fired and nobody was injured.”

The centre’s management is working closely with the police to find the suspects. “The safety and security of our tenants and shoppers remain our top priority,” Da Silva said.

Anyone with more information is urged to contact their nearest police station.
