Big stand against crime in central Kempton Park

Operation Masakhane rolled out from the corner of Pretoria and Highveld roads.

Security companies, Afriforum members, CPF members, neighbourhood watch members, Kempton Park reservists, the police and the community came together to embark on a crime prevention operation on Saturday.

Operation Masakhane rolled out at the corner of Pretoria and Highveld roads.

The operation included high visibility stop and searches and other crime prevention methods around the Rhodesfield and CBD areas.

In an effort to also educate residents about their safety and how to prevent becoming a victim of crime, officers also spoke to pedestrians and homeowners to give them safety tips.

The joint crime-fighting effort was conducted for six hours and the crime fighters reported back to the Joint Operation Centre (JOC) every hour.

“Operation Masakhane means, together we build and together we stand. We want to show the community that we are forming a partnership with them and all extended role players in the fight against crime,” said SAPS senior personnel officer (SPO) and operation co-ordinator Celeste Els.

Els pointed out that Operation Masakhane would take place on a regular basis.
