Lebowa Funerals donate shoes to two primary schools

Several learners from Shukumani and Moriting Primary Schools received school shoes

Having to walk to school with torn school shoes or barefoot is a headache for every learner, especially during winter when there is frost most mornings.

This is now a thing of the past for several learners from Shukumani and Moriting Primary Schools thanks to Lebowa Funerals – the company that donated 47 pairs of new school shoes to the learners at both the schools.

The donation took place on May 21 after members from Lebowa Funerals paid a visit to the schools to check with the officials the number of learners who were most in need of school shoes and also to get the right sizes.

The branch manager at Lebowa Funerals, Lebogang Malete, said the donation forms part of the funeral parlour’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme.

Lebowa Funerals’s branch manager Lebogang Malete and school teacher Julia Hlupi Shili handing over school shoes to one of the learners on May 21.

“Lebowa Funerals is not only there to make business in the communities but to also there to plough back to the society. This school shoe donation has been taking place for several years now and we are proud to say we are still making it against all odds. Every learner deserves to go to school wearing a proper school uniform regardless of his or her family background,” added Malete.

Malete further said from all their 18 branches in Gauteng and Limpopo, the funeral parlour is making sure that it donates school shoes every year.

“These donations do not serve as a marketing tool. It is about empowering the future leaders of our country. Our aim is to see all the learners perform better and achieve decent results, regardless of their family experiences. We want them to attend school with clean and well-fitted school shoes, to help them gain more self-confidence,” added Malete.

Shukumani Primary School teacher Julia Hlupi Shili and principal Robert Sangweni were joined by members from Lebowa Funerals and the learners received school shoes.

Moriting Primary School principal Julia Hlahle said they are very thankful for the donation as it came at the right time.

“We appreciate the sponsorship from Lebowa Funerals since our school has several children coming from disadvantaged families. And they do need this type of donation to help empower them emotionally and in their academic work. People from the funeral parlour are making a huge difference in our schools. God bless Lebowa Funerals and empower the parlour to continue to bless others,” added Hlahle.

Meanwhile, the principal at Shukumani Primary School, Robert Sangweni, said he believes the donation will restore hope and pride in the learners.

“We are extremely thankful and proud to have business people such as those from Lebowa Funerals who recognise our need and the future of children. It’s a good start as a local business for not forgetting its responsibility in terms of uplifting the communities. These learners will become responsible leaders in the future and come back to teach others the spirit of Ubuntu. Thank you Lebowa Funerals,” said Sangweni.
